South Africa Cricket Team – South Africa’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, announced on Thursday, September 9, is missing some experienced names.
The team was without all-rounder Chris Morris, former captain Faf du Plessis and veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir. Tahir and du Plessis, in particular, have withdrawn from other forms of the game with a view to playing in the next World Cup.

Temba Bavuma will captain a young UAE side – who is expected to recover from a thumb injury during the tournament – which also includes Keshav Maharaj, the left-arm spinner who will play in the T20Is.

Maharaj will captain South Africa in the upcoming T20I series in Sri Lanka in Bavuma’s absence, and CSA head of selectors Victor Mpitsang said the 31-year-old will be a key player for the team in the T20 World Cup.

Quinton de Kock, Aidem Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller are part of the experienced batsmen, while the Proteas also have a fast bowling line-up with Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje.

Cricket South Africa has also hired Justin Sammons and JP Duminy as the team’s expert advisors for the big event. Commenting on the appointment CSA Director of Cricket, Graeme Smith said: “I would like to thank the Imperial Lions and North West Dragons for making JP and Justin available to us, where they work as batting coaches.”

Sisanda Magala and Lizaad Williams retained their places in their squad for the short matches against the West Indies and Ireland.
