Singapore Cricket Team – In the world of cricket. At the 2017 SEA Games, Singapore won its first cricket gold medal. The Singapore cricket team has also defeated some of the world’s top cricketing nations, such as Zimbabwe, Scotland and Canada, and has achieved excellent performances in other international tournaments such as the Asian Cricket Council Trophy and the International Cricket Council World Cup.
However, despite all these achievements, the Singapore cricket team does not even have its own training ground.

In fact, Singapore’s 2017 gold medal was achieved against all odds. Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) CEO Saad Khan Janjua explained: “A month before the SEA Games, we lost the use of our usual training ground – the Kallang Drome – but you know what we did? We said ‘okay’, no problem, we booked a ground in Johor Bahru, put our team in a cheap hotel and trained there.”
Why Singapore Beating Zimbabwe Is A Big Deal
According to SCA President Mahmood Ghaznavi, the medals at the 2017 SEA Games were not the team’s highest achievement either. The Singapore cricket team’s performances in international tournaments such as the Asian Cricket Council Trophy and the International Cricket Council World Cup, where they performed “at different levels”, were a great success.
“We beat some very good teams like Canada, Bermuda and Scotland. But I don’t think we got the recognition,” he says. “Because it is on a platform that is not recognized by the institutions in Singapore.”
Most sports associations have a home, but cricket does not. It doesn’t have to be a good location or in a great zone, but what we need is security of property.” – President of SCA Mahmood Ghaznavi
Ghaznavi says there is also recognition for several types of sporting events – the SEA Games, the Asian Games, the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games. Unfortunately, cricket is not a common sport that can be included in any of these events, and the events and achievements of the World Cup are not easily recognised.

Ghaznavi points out that the most basic requirement – a dedicated training ground – is one of the biggest challenges for further progress.
He says, “Because we don’t have a foundation, we feel like our programs are random and we can’t really control the direction we want to go. When we had the ground in Kallang, we ran youth programs, classrooms, we had logistical support such as referees, training courses and programs to improve the level of play of the team. And you have to understand that cricket cannot be part of the field. The pitch has to be specially adapted for playing cricket – because 95% of the action is in the middle of the pitch where the strip is. You can’t share the pitch with hockey, cricket or rugby.”
“Most sports federations have a home,” adds Ghaznavi. “But cricket doesn’t have that. It doesn’t have to be a good location or in a prime area, but what we need is security of the property.”
Currently, the national team trains by renting the ground of the Indian Association. But since the Indian association leases on an annual basis, there is no security of tenure even for cricket.

Our 20th position is not a permanent position. Where we go from here really depends on how we develop a skilled team of homegrown players. If we want to keep playing with the big boys, we need a high-performance, world-class training facility.” – SCA CEO Saad Khan Janjua
There are currently 105 cricket playing nations (nations that are members of the International Cricket Council). Out of these, 12 Test playing nations, 5 of which automatically get a place to compete in the Asia Cup. Of the remaining 93 countries, Ghaznavi said Singapore is a strong contender, along with three other countries – Hong Kong, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates – vying for a place in the Asian Cup.
“We are just one step away from joining Asian giants like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Asia Cup,” said Saad. “It’s a qualifying match that will take place later this year or next year. We are also participating in T20 Global Cricket Qualifiers and World Cricket League Qualifiers.”
However, Saad cautions: “Our 20th place is not a permanent place. Where we go from here really depends on how we develop a skilled team of homegrown players. If we want to keep playing with the big boys, we need a high-performance, world-class training facility. We hope to get a home in Singapore like other non-state players.” Singapore will host Zimbabwe and Nepal in their first T20 International tri-series starting on Friday. A total of six matches will be played in this competition. The three teams will play each other twice, and the trophy will be lifted by the side with the most points.

What Monk Sri Nithya Turiyananda Swami, Professor Naresh Agarwal, Strategist Nitin Pai, Mountaineer John Gomes and Hotstar CEO Ajit Say… Navin Param hit an unbeaten 72 off 41 balls to give Singapore their second win in two ICC Men’s World T20 Qualifiers in Dubai on Sunday 20.10.
After beating higher-ranked Scotland in the first tournament, Singapore were reduced to 41/4 chasing Bermuda on 149/7 and in danger of conceding their lead in the points table. However, Param scored a half-century, in a match where none of his teammates crossed 26.
The team got off to a bad start as they lost opener and star player Surendra Chandramohan in the first match to George O’Brien when he missed a shot and was hit in the knee. They slipped further when Rohan Rangarajan was bowled three overs later and Aritra Dutt’s resistance was broken thanks to Kamau Leverock’s spectacular one-handed strike at the last moment.

Sea Games 2023: Singapore Win Gold In Men’s Six A Side Cricket Event
In the ninth over of the chase, with Singapore still needing more than 100 runs to win, Bermuda looked like they had the game in their hands. However, Amanpreet Singh and Param had different plans. While Manpreet dropped the anchor at one end, Param took the role of striker. The duo exchanged shots well and Param made the most of it when they were bowled out for 45 in the 17th over with Terryn Fray unable to hold on to a tough chance in the middle.
Bermuda made 79 for five in the 18th over when Manpreet raced down the track to skipper Dion Stovell, only to be beaten and stumped in mid-flight. The departure of his partner did not disturb Paramu’s concentration. The determined youngster hit Stovell with two fours in the same match to reduce the equation to 19
