Mcg Cricket Ground – One of the most famous stadiums in the world, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), known as “The G”, is the 10th largest stadium in the world and the largest in Australia.
Originally built in 1853, the stadium has undergone several renovations to bring it to a capacity of just over 100,000 – making it the largest cricket stadium in the world. The MCG is home to Victoria’s cricket team (which plays in the Sheffield Shield and One Day Cup), as well as the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League. Australia has played several international cricket matches at G, with the first ever Test (1877) and One Day International (1971) played here, both with England. It has become a regular occurrence for the stadium to host the annual “Boxing Day Test”, and the 1992 and 2015 Cricket World Cup finals were played here.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground is also the main venue for Australian rules football, with the AFL Grand Final being played every September – the world’s most attended football league. The MCG is also home to four Melbourne football teams.

The MCG was the main venue for the 1956 Summer Olympics as well as the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Other major events to be hosted at The G include international rules football between Australia and Ireland, international rugby matches, State of Origin games (rugby league) and Qualifiers for the World Cup.

The Sheffield Shield takes place between October and March and entry to Sheffield Shield matches at the MCG costs $6 for adults and $2 for children under 15 and concessions. Tickets are available at Gate 2 on the day of the match.

Air-Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine Airport) is the second busiest airport in Australia, with international and domestic connections to many global and Australian destinations.
The airport is located approximately 25 kilometers north of the Melbourne CBD and the Skybus is the most convenient option for traveling to the CBD. The shuttle bus runs 24 hours a day, one ticket starts at 18 dollars.
Melbourne Cricket Ground To Stage 2022 T20 World Cup Final
Bus – Bus number 246 stops along Punt Road, a few minutes’ walk from the MCG. This line runs from La Trobe University in the north of Melbourne to Elsternwick Station in the south.
Parking – Parking is available at Gate 3 (via Wellington Parade South), Gate 5 (via Punt Road), Gate 6 (via Punt Road) and Gate 7 (via Brunton Avenue). All parking is $10, however demand is often high. To check open parking, see the official MCG website here.
Train – MCG is served by Richmond and Jolimont train stations. Richmond station is approximately 5 minutes’ walk away and can be reached from the city by any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Dandenong, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston or Sandringham lines.
Jolimont station is less than 5 minutes walk away, from any station in the CBD you can take the Hurstbridge or Epping lines.

Tram – Trams number 75 and 48 go to Jolimont station, less than 5 minutes’ walk. 75 (City-Vermont South) travels along Flinders St and connects to the eastern part of the city via Wellington Parade. The 48 (Docklands/City-North Balwyn) travels along Collins Street and connects to the east side of the city via Wellington Parade.
Tram number 70 to the MCG stop, 2 minutes’ walk from the stadium over the water bridge. 70 (Docklands/City-Wattle Park) travels along Flinders Street and then loops through Melbourne Park.
Walking – The MCG is within walking distance of the city center and Flinders Street mainline station is just 15 minutes away across the William Barak Bridge. The bridge rises from Birrarung Marra (near Federation Square) over Batman Avenue, the Jolimont Rail Corridor and Brunton Avenue before descending into Yarra Park. The MCG, one of the largest sporting venues in the world, was built in 1853 when the Melbourne Cricket Club had to find a new dugout as Australia’s first steam train passed through the oval. The Melbourne Cricket Ground has been the home of cricket ever since – the first cricket match was played here in 1877, the 1956 Olympics were held here and on the last Saturday in September every year, Australia’s biggest cricket tournament. AFL Grand Final, down to the ‘G’ to pack it to the rafters with 100,000 screaming sports fans (the record attendance still stands at 121,000 for the 1970 final between Carlton and Collingwood).

But the ‘G’ is more than a coliseum for sporting warriors. Many major music concerts have been held here, and the G-man (ahem, God) himself deigned to visit in the form of Pope John Paul, who held mass at the MCG during his visit to Melbourne in 1986.
Today, with the renovation of the north side of the stadium (the biggest redux in 150 years), the ground seats 100,000 and is home to the Victorian Bushrangers and Melbourne Stars cricket teams. 4 AFL teams play regular home games at the MCG – Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood and Hawthorn.
Tours of the MCG take place on non-match days, allowing access to the stands, coaches’ box, famous long room, players’ dressing rooms and dedicated turf when available. Reservations are not required for individuals and small groups.

1. What is your favorite part of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) that you like to show visitors on the tour?
Walking into the bowl seats, looking out over the entire ground and walking around the ground itself is a great way to start your day at the MCG. Recent research has shown that going out to this area is the number one experience that tourists enjoy. I also like to visit the dressing rooms of the players – both national and international – as well as the members’ lounge where visitors can look down on the floor from the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) members’ berths. A look at the plaque in the dressing room can help start a conversation about the greatness of world cricket. For an amazing view, a walk up to Level 4 will have you looking down from the ground. You can see the whole city from here. And, of course, the photography and all the art around the stand makes a great picture!
2. Apart from being a favorite cricket destination, what other activities or activities can you experience while visiting the MCG?
The MCG is a multipurpose stadium and a landmark of the city. During the winter, it is home to Australian Rules Football (ARF) for approximately 60 matches per season. During that time, it attracted an average audience of over 60,000 people. The final had almost 1,00,000 spectators which made it a great experience to watch the game! The Australian Sports Museum here – which covers about 95 sports – recently underwent a $17 million renovation. It also features life-size holograms, priceless exhibits and interactive experiences. The area is home to statues of famous sportsmen, including Sir Donald Bradman, Keith Miller and Shane Warne, and is also home to the medals of athletes from the 1956 Summer Olympics.

3. How many years have you been at MCG? What are your favorite memories and unforgettable moments behind the scenes?
I have been a member of the Melbourne Cricket Club for 42 years and a tour guide for the Melbourne Cricket Club for 30 years! And during my stay here, I made many beautiful memories, including meeting travelers from all over the world. Once we had a Nepalese tourist
