A day earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) played out a minor thriller in IPL 2022. On Thursday, it was an opposite match – but a thriller nonetheless. A total of 421 was scored as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first ever win in the Indian Premier League by beating champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by an impressive 211 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

After riding on the contributions of Robin Uthappa (50), Moeen Ali (35) and Shivam Dube (49), CSK reached a solid score of 210/7 in 20 overs. LSG, however, were not deterred with a big run as captain KL Rahul (40), Quinton de Kock (61) gave the team a bright start. With 34 needed off 12 deliveries, the duo of Evin Lewis (55*) and Ayush Badoni (19*) scored 25 off Shivam Dube to take the lead from CSK.
With their first win of the season, Lucknow climbed to sixth position in the table, even as their net recovery rate (NRR) remains low below zero (-0.011). Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings are in eighth place with an NRR of -0.528. Rajasthan Royals, thanks to a 61-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this week, are at the top of the table.

Two players from Lucknow Super Giants made their way to the top-5 in the pre-run list – Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni. Robin Uthappa, who scored a half-century in the opener for CSK against LSG, has jumped to the third spot, while RCB captain Faf du Plessis leads the way.
There are no major changes in the Purple Cap list except for CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo who has broken into the top-5 as he is in the third position with four wickets to his name. Bravo recorded figures of 1/35 in four overs, breaking Lasith Malinga’s record (170) for most wickets in Indian Premier League history.
Wanindu Hasaranga tops the list thanks to a four-wicket haul during the match against KKR on Wednesday.

The defeat also knocked Chennai, who finished ninth, out of the Champions League contention. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants occupied the top two spots in the points table followed by Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians by 52 runs in Match 56 of Indian Premier League 2022. With this win, Kolkata killed their hopes of making the Playoffs alive. They won five matches and lost seven. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans occupied the top two spots.
Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 91 runs to register their fourth win of the season. With five wins and six losses, Delhi finished fifth in the points table, while Chennai edged past Kolkata Knight Riders to secure the eighth position.
In the afternoon match, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 67 runs. Bangalore now have 14 points from 12 matches. They are fourth, four points behind leaders Delhi. Hyderabad and Punjab Kings are level on points with Delhi but behind on average run rate.

Rajasthan are now third, while Punjab and Kolkata – seventh and eighth respectively – will have to fight hard to make it to the Games.

Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 games to climb to the fifth position in the points table. They are level with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on 10 points each but ahead of them in total run rate.
With eight wins and two losses, Gujarat Titans are positioned at the top of the points table. They are followed by Lucknow Super Giants, the other expansion franchise of the season, who have won seven games and lost three.

Earlier in the afternoon match, Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore to win their eighth match of the season. Gujarat and Rajasthan are in the top two spots followed by Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Bangalore is ranked fifth, while Mumbai is still at the bottom of the table.
