Team India ushered in a new era by facing New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-game doubles series on Wednesday. It was the team’s first match under new permanent T20I captain Rohit Sharma and new coach Rahul Dravid. The new partnership holds a lot of promise and former India opener Gautam Gambhir agrees.
Talking about Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues’, Gambhir shared his thoughts on Dravid’s appointment as the new coach of Team India. He said that the former captain of India is a successful player and that he believes he will be a successful coach.

“He was a very successful player, then he became a very successful captain and I’m sure he will be a very successful coach too. When he was in the locker room, I think it gives a lot of reassurance, he played over 100 Test matches. He captained the side, his work ethic was incredible, really He worked hard, so I think he brought a lot to the table,” Gambhir said.

Apparently this isn’t the first training role for “The Wall” in the Indian cricket system. Before taking over from Ravi Shastri, Dravid was on the India U-19 and India ‘A’ sides.
Asked at the pre-match press conference if he would use the same model that was so successful, Dravidian said:
“Certain coaching principles remain the same, but (some things) definitely have to change for different teams. It will take time to understand and shape myself to get the most out of the players. That’s my philosophy.”
Meanwhile, he started by winning. After choosing to go bowling, India capped New Zealand 164/6 in 20 tops. Openers Martin Guptill (70) and Mark Chapman (63) were the stars of the first hits.

One day after India cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid tested positive for COVID-19, National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman was named the side’s interim head coach for the 2022 Asian Cup. Dravidian’s eligibility for the Asian Cup was questionable after he tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday. It is important to note that Dravidian did not travel to Zimbabwe with the team for the three-game ODI series that ended on Monday. Laxman was the coach of the team in Zimbabwe.
BCCI said in a statement, “The Head of Cricket, NCA Mr. VVS Laxman will be the interim Head Coach of Team India (Senior Men) for the upcoming ACC Asian Cup 2022 to be played in the UAE.”
“Mr Laxman, who is traveling with the Indian team playing the ODI series in Zimbabwe, will oversee the team’s preparation in the absence of Mr Rahul Dravid, who tested positive for COVID-19 before the team leaves for the UAE.”
BCCI added that if Dravidian tests negative for COVID-19, there is a possibility that he will join the team later. “Mr. Dravid will join the team after he tested negative and was cleared by the BCCI Medical Team. Mr. Laxman joined the team in Dubai along with the vice captain, Mr. KL Rahul, Mr. Deepak Hooda and Mr. Avesh Khan. Traveled from Harare,” it added.

The Indian team will play their first match of the tournament on 28 August against their arch-rivals Pakistan. Three expert spinners including Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi are part of the roster. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are two round players.
In Bumrah’s absence, the tempo attack will be led by veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar, with young Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh rounding out the roster. Mortality expert Harshal Patel is also absent due to injury. Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar were named as substitutes.

Rahul Dravid was appointed on Wednesday by the Cricket Control Board at the India Cricket Advisory Committee as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
