Track Casino – Bellevue, Neb. () – Bellevue city officials believe Old Town Bellevue will get new life with more traffic and more people going into business – if its racetrack-casino becomes a reality.
Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hick failed to get LB311 out of committee and the city won a round in the battle.

“Competition is a good thing, but I don’t think it’s a place where the government can legislate competition, and I think some of these bills are a way to legislate competition,” Hick said.

Axarben Equine President John Hassett and his partners are behind Bellevue Racetrack. They are planning to build a horse racing track with open modern design with 5,000 seats and parking for 5,000 more. It will cost $150 million to make and will feature a big money race.
“We offer 24 race days, $5 million in purses, $200,000 per day in the Bellevue market and plan to build the premier horse racing circuit,” Hassett said.
Bellevue officials say the racing-casino was the anchor of the city’s entertainment district. Mayor Hick said the recreation district will feature an outdoor regional water park.
“This is an $80-100 million project that we’re trying to connect with the entertainment district with the horse track/casino,” Hick said. “If we get this water park, we’ll have other entertainment companies looking at it.”

“We’re looking at things in Bellevue that will lower our property taxes, increase our tax base, bring more recreation dollars and jobs,” Hayek said. “We’re trying to do what’s right for Bellevue and the state as a whole.”
Bellevue officials expect the issue to come up again in the upcoming legislative session. Other communities in the region have also floated the idea of building casinos.
